I don’t know about you, but the longer I live, the more I realize that doing things with others makes life more fun. There truly is beauty and blessing when living in community. If you attended our Women’s Ministry Launch, you’ll recall that we hosted a fabulous panel of women involved in various ministries, highlighting ways we could jump in and serve together. I have experienced firsthand what a practical and powerful concept this is. Making memories with women in our community + serving = a win/win!
Many of you are familiar with the House of Healing, a non-profit organization founded by one of CRBC’s very own, Kathy Boeckman. This incredible ministry has at its core the goal of healing the broken hearts of teenage girls. They do this through an equine program, mentoring, life skills and studies. Each semester they kick-off weekly meetings and love to provide a hot meal for the girls…which is where we came in. Last semester, the ladies in our connection class volunteered to take care of making and serving the weekly meals for the girls and their mentors.
This was such a simple way to serve, and do-able even for women who have a busy schedule. We divided the nights up, and two different women worked together each week to bring a simple meal already prepared (like spaghetti, tacos or meatball subs) out to HOH. We chatted with one another in the car ride out, and got to know some of the girls and mentors as they came through the food line. When they gathered to begin their session, we quickly cleaned up and headed home. It seems simple (and it was), yet they were all so grateful for the meals, and the ladies in our class loved the time together serving.
We had so much fun serving together, we didn’t want to leave the guys out! So one Saturday morning we headed back out to HOH as a class (with some cutie kids in tow) and we worked in the flower beds and cleaned up brush around the property. We enjoyed being outdoors together, shared many laughs and made memories, while serving a ministry that has meant so much to so many families over the years.
If your connection class, community group or friend group would like to serve together, please let our women’s ministry know, and we will connect you to one of the many opportunities in our church or with our other ministry partners. We would love for your group to discover how much better (and more fun!) it truly is when we serve and play together!
