Me: Umm… your shoes are on the wrong feet.
Son: I know! It makes Petey laugh!
Me: Isn’t it uncomfortable?
Son: Nope!
Me: Well, go ahead and get in the car I guess.
Petey, in case you are wondering, is his favorite stuffed animal. I am fairly certain Petey cannot laugh, but I guess stranger things have happened.
As a thirty-seven year old mom of young sons, I suddenly became a widow. Ahead of me was the biggest learning curve I had ever faced. In honor of National Parent’s Day on July 26th (can someone tell our kids this is a thing?), here’s a look back on life with littles. Don’t get me wrong, there are many fun things about having teens in the house - especially during the quarantine when we played games, worked puzzles and watched movies - and they can fix their own meals. But looking back, I feel nostalgia and love for that young mom in the trenches, falling into bed each night, having expended every ounce of physical and mental energy she had.
