Marriage Still Matters

A few years ago, our church created a ministry called Marriage Matters. It’s goal is to encourage and strengthen spouses, helping them grow in their relationship with the Lord and each other. The ministry hosted multiple events throughout the years from Valentine dinners to chill summer hang outs with Roxy’s ice cream. Sadly, 2021’s Valentine dinner has been canceled, but that doesn’t mean taking time to focus on your marriage has to be canceled too.

Reflecting on anything happening over a year ago seems it was a million lifetimes away, so I wanted to review what Robin and Chris Wall spoke over all the married couples at last year’s Valentine dinner.

Here are three things they encouraged us to do to strengthen our marriages:

  1.  Pursue each other hard.

They advised a daily dialogue, weekly withdrawal, and annual abandon with your spouse to make sure you are communicating and refocusing your marriage relationship. This may be more of a challenge as many families are still quarantining or social distancing, but I believe you can do it!

  2. Be grateful in every season

Wow, this is timely! Chris and Robin encouraged us to choose contentment with what we have and live within our means. That looks different for everyone, so remember to figure out what is best for your family.

  3. Invest in the eternal

We must establish community. That may be a virtual community at the moment, but even that is better than no community at all! We must embrace boundaries and live today with the end in mind. Let us not forget the purpose set before us.

I hope you will take a moment to reflect on these three points with your spouse and use them as a reminder that our marriages still matter. For future MM events and encouragement, email marriagemattersokc@gmail.com.
