Hands 4 Missions had its beginnings in 1998. A request was given to a class for needed items for a project at Baptist Village. Since that time a group of women has met the first three Thursdays of each month to create blankets, totes and gifts for our homebound members. The group works primarily by tying off lap quilts. Several of the members of the group use their time at home to make the quilts. The other members then tie the quilts off with colorful yarns.
The quilts are usually given to our homebound members at Christmas. Other quilts have been given to police/firefighters to give to children when they are removed from homes. New refugee neighbors were given welcome bags made by some of our ladies, which also included a quilt. Quilts are also given to foster children, Hope Crisis Center and The Spero Project.
Receiving blankets are made for new babies born to our CRBC families. These are part of the welcome package delivered by Dondra Lonsdale and our CRBC Preschool Ministry. Lap blankets are made from fleece in various colors for our homebound members. The blankets are fringed on two sides and we also make scarves. Some group members also make apron bibs for the homebound and others knit caps and blankets.
Valentine's Day, Easter, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas are busy times for the group. These are the special times when we make gifts for our homebound friends. There is so much laughter as the gifts come together. Large bags are filled with gifts, cookies and other surprises.
Most of the supplies to make all the things we do are donated. Hands 4 Missions is grateful for these gifts to our ministry. If we are unable to use some of these items, they are passed on to other missions. Our warm thanks to those of you who have given us financial support and supplies. We could not do what we do without these donations. If you would like to contribute, please contact Tina Pritchard, the Senior Adult Coordinator at Council Road.
Are you looking for a place to serve? Do you like working with your hands? Hands 4 Missions might be the place for you! Most of us are senior adults, but we welcome those of all ages. We meet on the first three Thursdays of the month except in June, July and August. In those months, we only meet on the first two Thursdays. You can find us in room 100, next to the Mission Cafe from 9 to 11:30. Come join us and have fun while serving others!
