Millenials have turned coffee shops into the place you go for everything: business meetings, first dates, friend dates, devotional time, study time, interviews, and more. Of course, all generations can enjoy time in a coffee shop. We would like to encourage you to use this “coffee shop for everything” idea to invite someone you don’t really know to coffee. Bonding over coffee (or tea for the non-coffee crowd!) is a great way to build a friendship or relationship with someone.
In September, as we focus on Groups Month at CRBC, we want to encourage building relationships outside of church walls that hopefully end up inside the church walls. I believe a simple “Would you want to go to coffee and talk more sometime?” is a great way to begin opening those doors to genuine friendships. Take someone to coffee this month. Even better, BUY someone coffee this month and engage them in honest conversations. Let your words and your actions speak like Jesus.
You may now be thinking, “Hmmm, where do I take said friend?” Luckily, two years ago we had Carly Cowan write a blog post on coffee shops in the area that I will link here. I would like to expand upon that list as there have been some new shops open since then and some that weren’t highlighted on this past list. So without further ado, here are 3 coffee shop additions to take your new friends to:
Summer Moon
Summer Moon recently opened off of the Turnpike and Route 66. It is a cute, cheerful place in a new building. Their signature is their wood fired coffee beans and their Moon Milk (their signature sweet cream). I would say their brag on the coffee is valid, as I really enjoy their cold brew with vanilla and moon milk. They have a drive thru, so it is easy to grab some coffee throughout the day as well. Their building has tons of windows, so the lighting is very natural and bright. Outside seating is available as well.
Higher Grounds Coffee Shoppe
Higher Grounds is located off of MacArthur and 63rd. It has been around for quite a while and is well known for their extra spaces that can be rented. They have a side room that can host baby showers, birthday parties, work parties, etc. They also have a small conference room that is rented out for only $5 per hour! It’s the perfect place for event planning, small bible studies or book clubs, work meetings, and more. They also have a drive thru, so a quick stop is available. Higher Grounds has some great drink options including their sparkling lemonade, which is a favorite of mine!
Vacca Territory
Vacca is located in a strip mall off of Route 66 & Cornwell in Yukon. They have a wide variety of baked goods, but their drink menu is pretty typical for a coffee shop. They do have outdoor seating on their front patio, which is nice on good weather days. Their vibe is more quaint than the above two coffee shops. It has lower lighting in a smaller area. I have enjoyed studying and working at Vacca.
Think about someone in your life you can invite to coffee. Then pick up your phone and invite them! Let’s live (and drink coffee!) in community with others.
