Thank You, Lord, For Your Constance

We are focusing on qualities of God we are most thankful for on the blog this month. If you’re like me, though, it’s tough to dial it down to just one characteristic. His faithfulness, mercy, and grace would top my list for sure. The comfort of the Holy Spirit and peace He brings are irreplaceable, and the way He knows and loves us is enough to bring tears to my eyes. He is just so good, and I am just so thankful for Him.

Yet as I think about the Lord and our relationship, His consistency and trustworthiness stand out in my mind at the moment. Lately, it has been hitting me fresh, that He has carried me all the decades I’ve lived, and will be with me all the ones to come. He is the Friend who is closer than a brother. He is the same yesterday, today and forever, faithful and true…constant.

I don’t know about you, but I am not very good with change. I like consistency; I like things to stay the same. Yet, so far very few things have actually stayed the same. Relationships, circumstances, culture, our health and physical bodies are all in a state of changing and growing. I process the bittersweet memories of passing seasons with my kids, and celebrate milestones as best as I know how, but if I’m honest, I want things to stay the same.

The good news for my heart is that although the world around us is in a constant state of change, our God will never change. He is always the same in character, purpose, and love. He is always good and always kind. He will never fail us. He is always for us. Meditating on the consistency of the Lord is about the most settling news my mind can rest on in a time when unsettling, ever-changing news can seem more constant.

Thank you Lord, for being a consistent place where we can come, and the One we can trust in every season of our lives. You are constantly constant and my heart will rest in You.
