It was just the next step!
For years, we have watched the lives of others unfold into something beautiful with hope, honesty, and joy. Although our journey has looked a great deal different than others, perhaps, our family can look back and see the same.
From leaving formal ministry to focus on restoring my life physically and emotionally, through extended inpatient and outpatient treatment, God has led me to the place of no longer speaking through my illness, but to speak out loud words of hope and life. God has allowed me to put these words and this message into blogs, opening doors to speak to groups large and small, and to turn these words into a book on finding and experiencing hope in the darkness. God has now opened the door to share encouragement and hope for those who struggle with mental health and those who love and support them through the Speak Out Loud podcast.
Fighting to do recovery well from an eating disorder does not mean recovery isn’t messy. My days of eating my meal plan, fighting manic depression and anxiety, are well, full! But God in His sovereignty is more than faithful! He is creating a resilience in our family which nothing or no one else could. My husband, Doug, and I co-host the Speak Out Loud podcast which comes from the overflow of how God is teaching us to live day by day as we are being carried through mental illness, despite our missteps and mistakes.
Mental illness does not define me as a wife, mama or woman, though it has been devastating many times. But it has also given me a story to tell—a story of choosing to not die, but live and to proclaim what the Lord has done and is still doing! (Psalm 118:17)
We are humbled and thankful for the opportunity to share our story and what God continues to allow us to share through the Speak Out Loud podcast. Thank you to our precious friends and church for seeing what we have often been blinded to—that in the messiness of existing, one day at a time, there is the potential to absolutely thrive! We hope you’ll listen!
You can find the Speak Out Loud podcast on Spotify, the Apple podcast app, or your favorite podcast player. My book, You Are Worth Saving, can be purchased on Amazon in both hard-copy and a digital format, as well as in the CRBC bookstore. We are so excited to announce that it will be available in an audio book format later this year!
