Getting to Know Your Bible

I knew some important things about my husband before we ever went on a date. We had mutual friends, so I heard about their impressions of and interactions with him. I knew about Brian, but I didn’t really know him until we spent a lot of time alone together. I listened to what he said and watched his behavior. Getting to know God has been similar.

I first learned about God from listening to what others said about their impressions of and interactions with Him. However, it wasn’t until I spent a lot of time alone with Him, listening to His words and watching His behavior that I began to truly know Him better.

Aside from salvation, the most valuable gift God has ever given is breathing His words into being and allowing us to read them over and over again in the form of the Bible. Why? Reading His words allows us to listen to what He wants us to know about Him and His ways. Getting to know our Bible helps us get to know God.

Herein lies a problem: Getting to know the Bible can be a challenge, and the tools that work best for me may be different that those which work best for you. Knowing that, I want to include a link here to a brief article I recently wrote for Lifeway Research that outlines 6 different user-friendly and easily accessible tools for personal Bible study. Hopefully, you will find something helpful for yourself and that you can pass on to help others. Here is the link:
