Showing God's Love Inside Our Church Walls

I love our church. Our church is not perfect, nor do we pretend to be. We’re a bunch of people who have different strengths, weaknesses, likes and dislikes. We have lots of opinions and ideas. Regardless of our beautiful differences, we have two things in common: Jesus and our church.

The Lord has blessed us with an amazing church body with which we have the privilege of journeying toward Heaven. As members of our church, it is critical that we love and serve one another. Acts 2 shows us a beautiful example of  believers who are fellowshipping and taking care of one another. John 13:35 actually records Jesus as saying that it is in how we love one another that all people will know we are His disciples.

Here are a few thoughts on how we can show God’s love inside our church walls:

Love your community practically.

We have the great privilege of loving our church community. We have our CRBC community as a whole, but we also have smaller communities within—connection classes, home groups, table groups, bible study groups, etc. So, take a meal to the grieving woman, the one who just had a baby, or the one who had a hard week. Send a doordash e-gift card, drop coffee off, add some snacks to your next grocery pick up order and leave the bag on her porch. If your budget is tight right now, give your time. Show up and wash the dishes, scrub the toilet. Give 10 minutes or 4 hours, $5 or $100. Send the note of encouragement, say the prayer. Showing love and serving our church does not have to be elaborate or one size fits all. As someone who has been on the receiving end of a lot of love and service specifically over the past 6 months (hello twin babies), I can testify that knowing someone is thinking of you and wants to act on it is a blessing that is gratefully received regardless of how big or small it may seem to the giver.

Find your spot to serve.

Our church requires service in order to function. Not sure where to serve? The possibilities are endless! Children’s ministry, youth, tech, coffee prep, greeters. Host your home group, ask your connection class leaders how you can serve them. Take some time, ask around, find where your fit is. I guarantee that your service will be gladly received. What a great joy it is to get to serve our church family!

Final thoughts.

We should never look at serving the church as a burden. If it is, maybe you need to examine how and where you are serving, as well as your motivation. Are you serving with selfish desires or out of obligation? Are you serving to bring glory to God and further His kingdom? Ask God to give you a desire to serve your community. Life is way too messy, wonderful, and hard to walk through it alone or in pseudo community. So, dive in. Let’s show God’s love to our church out of an overflow for our love for Him.

How can you show God’s love inside our church walls this week?
