The Women's Ministry at Council Road Baptist Church has embraced the theme “Connecting the Dots” for 2024. Last year we focused on the importance of orthodoxy and that overflowing into orthopraxy. This theme reminds us to lift our eyes and recognize the ways God is moving in our church, our city, and beyond through us. One recent event, Sundaes on Monday, gave us a sweet opportunity—both figuratively and literally—to celebrate how God is working at CRBC and in Oklahoma City. As a church with a deeply rooted mission mindset, we love to pause and reflect on the stories unfolding before us. Here are two that stand out.
Strengthening Single Moms with Scripture
The Single Moms Ministry at CRBC has seen incredible transformation over the past three years. One simple but powerful example is the impact of Scripture cards. Mary Robinson, a single mom, received a stack of these encouraging verses from a friend. Over the years, Billie, a dedicated leader in our Single Moms group, has shared this gift with many women, offering them hope and strength through God’s Word.
With so many new single moms joining our community in the past nine months, we saw an opportunity to continue this blessing. Now, a mom who was once encouraged by these Scripture cards helped equip others to create and distribute them. This beautiful cycle of encouragement does more than provide uplifting words—it fosters community, supports leaders, and invites our church body to see, pray for, and encourage single moms in meaningful ways.
Partnering with The Spero Project to Welcome Refugees
Another way CRBC is connecting the dots of orthopraxy is through The Spero Project, an organization that helps refugees resettle in Oklahoma City. CRBC has strong ties to Spero, with former church members now serving in key leadership roles. Mackenzie Magnus, once our Missions Director, now serves as Spero’s Community Engagement Specialist. Sang Rem, a former Children's Ministry intern, leads as the Director of Resettlement. And Campbell Crabtree is currently interning with the nonprofit. At Sundaes on Monday, Addi Suenram facilitated creating beautiful vases and frames for these new neighbors to feel more at home, when many families will start over with bare apartments.
Last August, we delivered backpacks filled with school supplies to families living in refugee-populated apartment complexes. This Spring Break, our middle school students will take the lead in organizing a Vacation Bible School (VBS) for refugee children in those same communities. These connections, both relational and practical, reflect God’s heart for the nations and our call to welcome the stranger.
Where Do You See God at Work?
Ephesians 2:8-10 reminds us that we are called and equipped for the good works God has prepared for us. As we witness His hand in our church and city, let’s take time to reflect: Where do you see God moving in your life? In your community? Let’s celebrate together and continue connecting the dots as we serve, love, and share the hope of Christ!
