God’s Word is alive and powerful - it’s too good to miss! If you’re looking to spice up your current reading (or non-reading!) plan...
Here are 3 New Ways to Read the Bible:
1. READ SCRIPTURE APP
Billed as “visual storytelling meets the Bible,” this is seriously one of THE coolest things I have ever seen! Hand-illustrated drawings depicting a passage of God’s Word, being done while someone is giving an overview of that passage. Fascinating especially for visual learners! This app highlights main themes in the Bible in such an easy to understand way. I like to watch one of their short videos on a particular book of the Bible before I start reading it.
You can also see these videos at thebibleproject.com or on the YouVersion App – they’re just immediately accessible on the Read Scripture App.
2. YOUVERSION BIBLE APP
Widely considered the #1 Bible App, over 86 MILLION devices have downloaded it…for FREE!
It’s loaded with Bible reading plans (both daily and topically driven), devotionals, videos, verse of the day images, etc. My husband loves to listen to the Bible using this app. Click “Read” on the Toolbar, choose a passage, then click the arrow at the bottom of the passage to listen. No arrow? You may need to update your version or click the speaker image at the top of the page.
My mind tends to meander when I try to listen to listen to something I’m not looking at, so audio-only things don’t work well for me. But I do prefer other features on this app. Besides using the Magnifying Glass in the top left corner to find verses on certain topics, I particularly like some of the Toolbar options in the “Plans” and “More” sections.
I use the daily F260 Bible Plan that I downloaded under “Plans” and am newly fascinated with the above-mentioned Bible Project videos on the Read Scripture App. Here on YouVersion, you can find these by clicking “More,” then “Videos,” then “Bible Project.”
Got kids? Check out YouVersion’s super engaging kid-friendly Bible App!
3. SHE READS TRUTH BIBLE + DEVOTIONAL APP
She Reads Truth (SRT) refers to themselves as “an online community of women who read the Bible together daily.” Designed by women and for women, this site is beyond stunning! The downloadable lock screens alone are drool worthy. Using the SRT App, website and/or #SheReadsTruth on social media, you can come alongside hundreds of thousands of potential gal pals who read together and daily comment on God’s Word.
Warning: Reading the Bible on a cell phone is not for everyone. Turn off your ringer so you don’t get sidetracked when reading/listening/viewing on your phone.
We’d love to hear your favorite ways to read Scripture. How do you like to engage with God’s Word? What has worked well for you?
